When a woman—known in her family for being generous to a fault—was put in charge of distributing her late aunt's belongings, she expected some tension. What she didn't expect was to walk into the house weeks later and find it completely empty. Furniture, appliances, dishes—every last thing was gone.

The only other person with a key was a relative who had already taken money, a car, and a bedroom set. And when confronted, she didn't bother denying it. She simply shrugged her way through excuses, acting as if clearing out a whole house was normal behavior.
